Rangers-linked defender Thomas Galdames on cusp of exit

Thomas Galdames has been told he can 'leave with love' amid speculation linking him with a move to Rangers.

The 25-year-old left-sided defender has been tipped to head to Europe this summer and depart Argentinian club Godoy Cruz.

He is contracted until December at the South American club, however, reports suggest it's widely expected Godoy wants to sell now to bring in a fee for his services.

The links with Rangers emerged after a £3m swoop for Jose Cordoba fell through yesterday.

Philippe Clement has already drafted in Brazilian left-back Jefte this summer, with many more expected to follow in the coming months.

Galdames was in action last night during his side's resounding 4-0 win over El Porvenir. He grabbed two assists in what could well be his final farewell.

While Godoy will get money for him, given he's into the final six months of his contract, it will be for a cut price.

And it seems that his manager Daniel Oldra is resigned to losing him.

Asked if the player will be allowed to 'leave with love,' he responded: "Galdames has made me angrier than my son, how can he not have me as a father? He has had a great year, I know I'm going to lose it.

"But football has those things. Let them leave with a love from Godoy Cruz which means that they have been happy here."

Meanwhile, the next step for Rangers' recruitment drive will take them to Mexico, it is reported.

The Daily Record claims Rangers transfer chiefs will head to Cancun for a summit in June.

The Ibrox club attended last year's TransferRoom meeting in Lisbon.

It's believed this directly led to the loan signing of Oscar Cortes from Lens in France.
