Rangers legend helped sell me on Ibrox move and I couldn't have asked for more

Zeb Lawson has had quite the year - signing for Rangers, winning the CAS Elite Youth League, a first-team debut and then a loan move to Queen's Park.

The winger left Brighton and made the move north to Glasgow last summer and is seen as a prospect for the future.

Part of the under-19s team to in the league, he was the hero on the final day with two goals to beat St Mirren and clinch the title. The 17-year-old made his first-team debut against Annan a day later and has since appeared twice more for the top team.

He will now spend the season on loan with the Spiders in the Championship to buid up his experience.

Lawson has revealed in an inteview with RYDC that Rangers hero David Weir helped sell him on moving to the club.

“I really enjoyed my time at Brighton and I got to know David Weir. He’s a really nice guy and he helped a lot. He told me a lot of good things about Rangers," he said.

“The move to Rangers last season was amazing for me, it couldn’t have gone much better really.

“I played three first-team games, was the top scorer for the 19’s and it was the best feeling ever to score the goals that won the league against St Mirren.

“Then, to play for the first-team again the next day at Falkirk was just incredible so I think it was a really positive season overall.

“I couldn’t have asked for more in my first season at the club.

“Coming up from England, you don’t really know what to expect, but I’ve played for the first-team already and helped the 19s win the CAS Elite League.

I was devastated when my January move to Rangers failed and jumped at chance to join I have to agree with Andy Halliday on James Tavernier claim - here is why

“When you put the hard work in, it shows on the pitch and once it shows on the pitch, you get the opportunities that you need to deliver."

Lawson is looking to make the most of his first-team exposure at Queen's Park before returning to stake a claim at Ibrox.

He added: “I will work hard on my game as I want to fully adapt to first-team football at Rangers and play at a high level permanently.

“Hopefully that can happen soon on the back of a good loan move to Queen’s Park.

“My target is to get on that first-team pitch more. Starting games for Rangers is the goal.

“Rangers is a great club. It’s a huge club and you have to handle it but I have good people around me. I have a great family, a great agent and there are great coaches here at the club.

“Everyone’s in the building because they’re good enough to be here. So, I think that settles everything down and helps you realise that you’re just here doing what you love – which is playing football.

“When I signed, one of my first destinations was to visit the Rangers Museum.

“It was really nice to see the history of the club and I think that was important.

“It gives you more passion because you learn more about the background and you can see how much Rangers means to people.”
