Rangers legend Andy Goram has experienced the “worst two weeks of his life” after being rushed to hospital following his cancer diagnosis.
The ex-goalkeeper, 58, is to undergo a procedure which will establish whether there is a problem with his treatment.
Goram was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride on Wednesday with severe stomach pains.
It came just days after he was discharged from Wishaw General, where he had been given the shock diagnosis last month.
Friends, ex-players and football fans from around the world have rallied round the Ibrox nine-in-a-row hero since it was announced he was ill.
His close pal Stan Gordon said Goram – nicknamed “The Goalie” – had been overwhelmed by messages of support during the “worst two weeks of his life”.
Pub boss Stan revealed the ex-Scotland No1 was taken back into hospital following an appointment with a cancer specialist.
He said: “After being released from Wishaw General last Friday, Andy had a routine meeting with the oncologist at Hairmyres to discuss possible treatment for his cancer.
“He had severe stomach pains on Monday and Tuesday.
“On Wednesday, he was rushed up to a ward. He will get scoped to see if the stent inserted into his gullet a few weeks ago is still properly in place.”
He added: “Andy would like to thank everyone for the cards and best wishes from the world over – from Celtic fans and ex-players, the whole Rangers family and a vast amount of former team-mates who have visited him.”
Stan said the support has given his former business partner the strength to battle the condition.
He also saluted Goram’s son Danny, who had kept a vigil at his dad’s bedside.
Stan added: “The visits from friends, along with family, have kept him fighting. Especially his son Danny, who was beside him for the worst two weeks of his life.
“He wants to say a massive ‘thank you’ to every member of staff in Ward 18 at Wishaw General for that period and the staff he’s had so far at Hairmyres.”
Goram left Hibs to sign for Rangers for £1million in 1991.
His glittering seven-year spell at Ibrox saw him win six league titles and five domestic cups.
Goram later played for Motherwell and Manchester United.
In a 13-year Scotland career, he won 43 caps and went to two World Cups as Jim Leighton’s back-up.
He also played all three of his country’s games at Euro ‘96 in England.
