Rangers in 'advance transfer talks' over Bundesliga winger with interest high from France

Rangers are in advance talks over a move for Schalke winger Rabbi Matondo, according to a report.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has had a busy week of transfer activity at Ibrox after bringing in attacker Antonio Colak in a near £2 million move from PAOK. Tom Lawrence has also put pen to paper on a fee with his last action coming with Derby County. The duo join John Souttar in arriving at the club this summer after penning a pre-contract deal from Hearts.

Now, RMC are reporting that Matondo is next on the wish list of the Dutchman - who has admitted he would like to add at least two more new faces this summer. The report says talks are progressing well but Ligue 1 duo Brest and Lorient are providing competition for the signature of the 21-year-old. Matondo, capped 11 times by Wales, had a stunning campaign in Belgium last season scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.

Van Bronckhorst has expressed a desire to add more firepower to his frontline and the 21-year-old right-winger could become the latest Ibrox addition.

He started his youth career at Cardiff City before joining Manchester City. He then made the move to Germany with Schalke before spending two long periods away from the club with Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.

Speaking about his summer transfer plans, the Dutchman said: “We are still busy. I think a couple more, yes. We need to be successful throughout the whole season.

"You saw last season that we were lacking a little bit of depth up front with the strikers that we lost.

“I don’t want to come into another situation where I have to play someone like Joe Aribo as a striker.

“We just need to be prepared for everything that can happen to this club and still have quality.

“More in the attacking positions is the aim.”
