Rangers' Ianis Hagi wears unusual headgear after nasty Romania vs Netherlands knock

Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi was forced to wear unusual headgear after a nasty collision against the Netherlands.

The Ibrox player, 26, is on international duty with Romania and started against the Netherlands in Germany this afternoon.

However, there were fears for Hagi after just three minutes when the midfielder required treatment for a bleeding head injury.

Replays showed Hagi had been caught by the elbow of defender Denzel Dumfries in an accidental collision in the box.

Blood could be seen on the arm of Hagi after the head injury with the player forced to leave the field for treatment from Romania medics.

Two minutes later, though, and Hagi returned to the field of play ready to continue the last 16 tie against the Netherlands.

Hagi's look was altered, however, with the midfielder returning to the pitch sporting protective netted headgear.

Instead of his long brown hair, Hagi was instantly recognisable on the pitch with the netted protective gear over his head.

It appears the knotted net headgear was being used to hold down bandaging on Hagi's head after the collision caused bleeding.

Images of Hagi were quickly shared on social media with jokes over the improvised protective equipment following the heavy head knock.

One social media user joked: "I think he misheard when Ianis Hagi was told to head it into the net."

Another remarked: "Someone put an onion bag on Hagi's head. Onion Hagi."

And a Rangers fan groaned: "What have they done to my boy hagi, what is he wearing💀💀"
