Ally McCoist has admitted his concern over Rangers' decision to let Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent run down their contracts.
The Light Blues duo are both in the final six months of their current deals and can start discussing pre-contracts with other interested clubs come January 1. The pair have been off-form this campaign with the Colombian hitman mostly playing second fiddle to summer recruit Antonio Colak while Kent has failed to find his big performances consistently.
Ibrox hero McCoist doesn't believe Morelos will get a move to the same level as 18 months ago if he decides to move on stating 'he needs to regain form' to land a transfer on par with his current club. He believes team-mate Kent is in the same boat with the next few months set to prove 'vital' over the duo.
Speaking about the key duo, McCoist said: "On recent form, Alfredo Morelos won't get a move at the same level he could've been at 18 months ago. Obviously, his injury hasn't helped but he hasn't reached the level required since the setback so he needs to regain a little bit of form if he wants to secure a move at the same level as Rangers are at.
"Ryan Kent, on the other hand, was exceptional during the European run, some of his performances were amazing but his consistency levels have dropped and if he wants to move on to another club then he has to perform better.
"I'm a little concerned that their contracts have been allowed to run down and as I said, the next couple of months are going to be vital."
It's all change at Ibrox with Giovanni van Bronckhorst sacked and Michael Beale now in the hot seat after his sensational Ibrox return. He was No2 under Steven Gerrard but has now returned as the main man from English Championship side QPR.
McCoist has been vocal in his surprise at Rangers not going for someone with more experience - but says it is vital he gets support from the board he he bids to challenge Celtic and Ange Postecoglou.
The Rangers hero is in no doubt his old club can win trophies under the new boss but the board need to back him in what the highly-regarded pundit describes as 'exciting times ahead'.
Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, he added: "Hiring any manager is a gamble. I was surprised that Rangers hired Michael as I thought they'd prefer someone with more experience but when you actually think about it, they've hired someone that knows the club, has been there and knows what's required of him.
"The one thing he needs to get; is support from the board - it's vital. The next two or three months are vital for Beale and his tenure.
"Of course, Rangers can [win trophies under Michael Beale]. The board made the decision to hire Michael and one thing that needs to be done now is for us Rangers supporters to rally around the team and give them support.
"The time is now for Rangers to start winning things again, domestically. It's important that Michael gets support from the board too and I'm sure he will. There are some exciting times ahead."
