A Scottish drinks company has created a new Rangers gin celebrating the club's history – with one very important ingredient.
Glasgow-based whisky specialists Douglas Laing & Co. teamed up with the club to create a range of bespoke spirits to celebrate their 150th anniversary.
One of the releases was a limited edition premium gin that not only contains a carefully curated list of botanicals - but also freshly cut grass taken from the Ibrox pitch.
Managing Director of Douglas Laing & Co. Chris Leggat explained that the team came up with the idea while looking for a truly special way for the gin's make-up to connect to the club.
Chris told the Daily Record: "The gin is part of the club's celebration of their 150th anniversary and they wanted a premium hand-crafted spirit.
"And it was one of our team that suggested using the grass from the pitch as a special ingredient, along with the other quality botanicals we would be using.
"Rangers were happy with the idea and gave us some of the freshly cut grass, which we then passed on to our distiller who experimented with it alongside the rest of the recipe to create this unique and wonderful gin."
Adding that it isn't just a "quirky gin with a football club's label on it", Chris stated that the gin is a premium spirit that the club and its fans "can be proud of".
Working with the club and creating a range of different recipes before settling on the final one, the distilling team say the gin was made using a selection of 15 botanicals to create a "crisp and perfectly balanced" spirit with notes of citrus zest, minty sweetness and gentle spice.
Limited to a run of just 3000 bottles the juniper spirit, which comes in at 42% abv is available to buy now for £30 from both the Rangers and Douglas Laing websites.
The independent family-owned company, which dates back to 1948 when it was founded by Fred Douglas Laing, has created a set of different limited edition spirits for the anniversary including a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, a Premium Aged Rum, a small-batch vodka and Small Batch Single Malt.
At the time of the release, Rangers commercial and Marketing director, James Bisgrove said: “The global sales of our sales of 150th-anniversary merchandise & Official Licensed Products has been incredible, and I am sure these unique spirits will take pride of place on many supporters’ mantelpieces, as well as proving perfect gifts."
