Rangers 'fork out' five-figure transfer fee as promising Hibs talent set for Ibrox switch

Hibs youngster Connor Young is set to join Rangers after the clubs agreed a five-figure fee for his services, according to reports.

The teenage striker hit the goal trail for the Hibees' under-18 side last term, scoring 25 times as they clinched European football for this term. League title glory was claimed on points-per-game basis and they also reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Youth Cup with Young's goals and assists playing a big part in that.

Ethan Laidlaw and Josh O’Connor are also in the forward department at Hibs and are viewed as more likely to hit Lee Johnson's senior squad. The Edinburgh Evening News reports that they 'didn’t want to prevent Young from moving on' and as such Rangers is his likely club this season. They are reported to have 'forked out' for his services and will pay Hibs five figures to take him into their Auchenhowie youth system.

A boyhood Hibee, Young was with Hearts and Leith Athletic prior to joining the Easter Road club, spending time at Civil Service Strollers during the 2020/21 season.

He was to be included in the development squad for Hibs this year and scored the opener in the 2-1 pre-season friendly win against Tranent Juniors.

Young then smashed in an impressive four goals in a 7-0 victory over Preston Athletic.

He will join a raft of youth talents linking up with the Ibrox club this summer, including Zak Lovelace and Bailey Rice amongst others.
