Rangers fans react to Joe Worrall's journey from Rugby Park nightmare to Nottingham Forest’s Premier League joy

Joe Worrall turned the air blue during his post match interview after leading Nottingham Forest back to England’s top flight after a 23-year absence.

And it seems a few Rangers fans did the same watching in their living rooms after being left stunned by his transformation.

After the win over Huddersfield, Worrall told Sky Sports: “I’m not saying we’ve been good in the past seasons because we haven’t – we’ve been s***e.”

Worrall is no stranger to an expletive being caught on camera after incurring the wrath of Steven Gerrard during his loan spell at Rangers for been captured saying “f*** Celtic” on a cameraphone during a night out.

But it was his performances on the park during his spell at Ibrox that left many Gers supporters underwhelmed.

One, though, appeared to stand out above all others - a post-winter break defeat at Kilmarnock when he gifted Eamonn Brophy a goal.

In the game prior to the winter break he had helped Rangers to their first win over Celtic in 13 attempts and at the time said: “It’s been a strange month.

"You come off the high of the Celtic game when you’re a god. Then you make a mistake against Kilmarnock and you should be booted back to England."

Worrall made 22 appearances for the Light Blues but the reaction on social media to the Forest’s captain Wembley win suggests his rise has surprised them.

One said: “My heart was in my mouth every time Joe Worrall got on the ball for Rangers.”

“Seen a lot of people say Joe Worrall has done well this season and improved massively since he left Rangers. And based on this 38 minutes of watching him it’s a lot of s***.”

Another added: “Just can’t get over Joe Worrall is going to been the Premier League next season. He was s*** at Rangers and will get tore apart in that league.”

That night in Ayrshire was never far from comments as one recalled: “Joe Worrall was Killie’s MOTM one day against Rangers… while he played for Rangers.”

But what about life in the top flight next season? One said: “(Erling) Haaland up against Joe Worrall will be some laugh.”

However, some others defended the stopper who was inexperienced at Ibrox. One wrote “Joe Worrall could end up at Real Madrid and some Rangers fans would still call him s**** because of that howler at Killie.”

Another added: “That night at Rugby Park gives me nightmares, don’t get me wrong, but Joe Worrall was 21 years old while on loan at us. He had an error in him and was inexperienced but he was actually a decent defender with us.

“Joe Worrall could be playing for England, but Rangers fans still have a huge chip on their shoulder.”

Scotland defender Scott McKenna has been playing alongside him and one fan said: “Nottingham Forest got promoted to the Premier League with Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna as their key players yet apparently Celtic and Rangers wouldn’t cruise the Championship.”

And could a current Rangers man be joining them at the City Ground? One fan said: “ Connor Goldson giving up European nights at Ibrox to play in a back 3 with Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna.”
