Rangers fans have been boosted by the possibility of an away ticket allocation for their trip to face Borussia Dortmund as Covid rules are eased in Germany.
The Europa League draw threw up a mouth-watering clash with the Bundesliga giants as supporters eyed up an away day at the Westfalenstadion.
But amid rising case numbers of the Omicron variant outdoor sports events were stripped back with a fraction of the 81,000-seater stadium filled as just 750 fans were permitted.
That saw Rangers facing the prospect of having no travelling fans for the clash on February 17 with Ibrox chiefs expressing their "frustration" at the decision.
But Germany are now rolling back some of the regulations put in place for venues.
Deutsche Presse-Agentur report that the 16 Federal State Chancelleries and the Federal Government have agreed to allow up to 50 per cent or a maximum of 10,000 fans for Bundesliga clubs.
Western state North-Rhine Westphalia, where Dortmund are based, are expected to rubber stamp the new protocols before Dortmund's next game against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
The change also means fans entering the ground must be fully vaccinated and have a negative test result.
Rangers would have expected to take a huge following to see Gio van Bronckhorst's side test their mettle against the likes of Erling Haaland.
In a previous statement the club noted that "the situation may evolve between now and matchday with other states moving at different speeds."
