Rangers fans furious after vile graffiti mocking Ibrox disaster appears on shop

Football fans are demanding action after vile graffiti mocking the Ibrox disaster appeared on a Rangers shop.

Sick thugs targeted the St Enoch's store in Glasgow with green paint writing '66' and 'f**k h**s' on its window.

It is believed they were referencing the 1971 tragedy which saw 66 Rangers fans killed during a huge crush in the Ibrox stadium.

The incident happened during New Year Old Firm derby against Celtic in 1971 and children as young as nine lost their lives.

The culprits of the green hateful graffiti have been branded 'a disgrace' for using real deaths 'to have a go at a football club'.

Furious fans are calling for consequences after images went viral on social media on Friday.

SNP MSP James Dornan branded them a "disgrace" tweeting: "I’ve just been sent this photo by a, quite rightly, furious Rangers fan.

"Who in their right mind thinks it appropriate, funny or smart to use the death of 66 football fans, husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, to have a go at a football club.

"You’re a disgrace to all you hold dear."

One woman said: "Sick people to do this. I remember this terrible day happening. 66 people went to see football and never went home. Not one bit funny.

"Somethings are bigger than the game and this is one thing that definitely is."

A disgusted Rangers shared the image and tweeted: "Rangers shop with vandalism mocking 66 of our own that were killed."

Another fan tweeted: "We have come to expect it. But we deserve better."

Another fan tweeted: "Totally out of order. You may not support the club or follow football.

"You may not be a Unionist or a Royalist.

"Doesn't matter - the reference was to a tragedy in anyone's language.

"This goes beyond just vandalism - it attacks the very memory of those that lost their lives them."

And it wasn't just football fans who were angry.

One woman with no affiliation to the sport tweeted: "Disgusting. I would make it clear I am not a Rangers or any other football team fan but I like to think I am a human being and can feel compassion no matter who it is."

Police Scotland said they could find no report of the incident when approached by the Record.

Rangers have been approached for comment.
