Angry Rangers supporters launched into a fierce protest at the club's boardroom over the decision to join Celtic at the Sydney Super Cup.
Record Sport revealed the Ibrox side are willing to pay a £1m penalty to exit the event in the wake of fan backlash over the controversial tournament.
And supporters made their feelings perfectly clear during the clash with Dundee at Dens Park as they launched tennis balls and toilet paper onto the pitch both at kick-off and after 10 minutes.
Chants of "stick your friendly up your a****" were heard bellowing from the away end as angry Rangers followers made their feelings known about playing Celtic in a non-competitive match.
The club appear on the verge of pulling the plug only weeks after talking up the decision to head Down Under.
Commercial director James Bisgrove said: "We've been in negotiations for a few weeks for this particular opportunity and, to be frank, it's a sizeable benefit to the club from a commercial perspective.
"I think to an extent that we've never had an offer of this level for two friendly games, for an international tournament.
"It's something the board have unanimously looked at and seen as a positive opportunity for Rangers Football Club.
"To put some context around this, and we've spoken before, Stewart Robertson's spoken before about the broadcast and the media values here in Scotland.
"The club's view on that has been well documented and the participation in this event over eight days will benefit the club to the same level as an entire season in the SPFL Premiership for two friendly games.
"When we talk about wanting to maximise the commercial potential of this football club we felt this is an opportunity to really help us achieve that ambition."
