Rangers fans and pundits all saying the same thing after Steven Davis' Scottish Cup cameo

Rangers fans are united in the hope that Steven Davis doesn’t hang up his boots after the Northern Ireland captain produced a classy cameo against Celtic.

Davis, who is out of contract in the summer, was introduced as a 75th minute substitute for Ryan Jack in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park.

And the 37-year-old brought a sense of calm and composure to proceedings as Rangers hit back from 1-0 down to secure a memorable 2-1 win over their Old Firm rivals in extra-time.

Greg Taylor had put Celtic ahead only for fellow Rangers substitute Scott Arfield to equalise before an apparent Carl Starfelt own goal completed the turnaround in extra-time.

Afterwards former Rangers midfielder Steven Thomson described Davis as a “Rolls Royce” while Premier Sports pundit Michael Stewart said the veteran playmaker had “made a difference”.

Stewart added: “Once he came on with Scott Arfield, we thought very like-for-like, would he (Gio Van Bronckhorst) not try and change it up a little bit?

“But credit to Giovanni Van Bronckhorst because they had an impact and Steven Davis meant that they got better control in the middle of the park.”

On Twitter, Rangers fans lined up to praise the impact of Davis who has enjoyed only limited game time at Ibrox this season.

Jamie Hunter described the Northern Ireland midfielder and Arfield as “old but gold” while Johnny Alexander said he had been “criminally underused this season”.

James Greer said Davis had made an “outstanding” contribution, while Notorious DOUG wrote: “Someone needs to tell Steven Davis he’s never allowed to retire”.

Here are a selection of the best tweets following Steven Davis’ impressive performance against Celtic at Hampden Park..
