Rangers duo brutally mocked on Dutch TV as Ajax mauling sees outspoken pundit let rip

Connor Goldson and James Sands were ripped apart by a leading pundit as he played down claims Ajax striker Mohammed Kudus is a superstar in the making.

Rangers have been widely panned after their second 4-0 defeat in a row when they followed up a hammering at Celtic by losing by the same scoreline in Amsterdam in the Champions League opener. Ghanaian striker Kudus netted and was voted Man of the Match. Former Ajax defender Keje Molenaar immediately predicted the 22-year-old would be sold for at least £75 million in the next transfer window. But forthright Dutch pundit Valentine Driessen believes Kudus only looked so good because Rangers' defenders left him.

He pointed out: "The euphoria surrounding Kudus makes no sense at all. Yes, he played a great game that night, but did you see the Rangers' central defenders? They never got near to him all night. Let's wait and see him play against Liverpool because truthfully, the Scots were not at the standard required for this level and he's nowhere near top class yet."

And the impact of Calvin Bassey went a long way to proving the difference between Ajax and Rangers, according to the TV pundit.

Driessen explained: "Rangers got to the Europa League Final last season with Calvin Bassey in the team. I'm not saying that was the only reason they got there, but he clearly made a big difference. Against Rangers, Remko Pasveer didn't have a save to make and Ajax have yet to conceded a goal when Bassey has played. He's an impressive signing."
