UEFA have slapped Rangers with a £16k fine after fans let off flares in a show of defiance against Lyon's local government.
The away day in Gers' final Europa League group match was mired in controversy as French authorities flip-flopped on whether fans would be allowed to travel.
The Lyon 'Festival of Lights' took up so much police time and resources that Rangers were forced to inform fans who had made travel and accommodation arrangements they would not be allowed.
But the matter wasn't closed and 24 hours later the lockout was lifted - after some supporters had opted to cancel their plans to save cash.
The farcical build-up angered supporters and they showed it as Gio van Bronckhorst's players emerged from the tunnel on December 9 of last year.
Flares were lit across the 2,200 strong away end with a banner that read: "Rangers festival of lights".
But UEFA have taken a dim view and on Friday afternoon fined the club a whopping €19,250, or just under £16,000 under the 'lighting of fireworks, Art. 16(2)(c) DR' regulation.
Lyon were also fined €5,000 after displaying 'provocative, offensive messages' under Art. 16(2)(e) DR.
