Rangers confirm Jack Simpson departure as defender heads down south

Rangers confirm departure of first teamer as he departs for England

JACK SIMPSON has left Rangers after agreeing a permanent move to English Championship side Cardiff City.

The central defender, 25, had joined the Ibrox club from Bournemouth in February last year but failed to nail down a spot in Giovanni van Bronckhorst's squad.

And he has now completed a switch back down south with Cardiff paying an undisclosed fee to seal a summer transfer.

Simpson played just 14 times for Rangers in his short stint in Glasgow before returning to England.

A Rangers statement read: "#RangersFC can today confirm the departure of Jack Simpson to English Championship side @CardiffCityFC on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

"Simpson leaves Rangers with the best wishes of everyone at the club."

And speaking to the Cardiff City website after completing his move, Simpson said: "I'm very excited to join the Club. I spoke to the manager about what he's trying to do here.

"I'm a ball playing centre half, and hopefully that'll suit the way the team are playing now.

"I'm excited to be here. I want to help the team and play in as many games as possible."
