Rangers Champions League qualifier opponents confirmed after penalties

Rangers will face Servette in the Champions League third qualifying round.

The Ibrox side had been paired with the winners of the match between Servette and Genk.

And after the Swiss side ran out winners, it sets up a clash with Rangers in the next round.

The first match between the clubs will be played at Ibrox after Rangers were drawn first for the tie.

The first leg will be played on August 9 with the return fixture to be played a week later on August 15.

To reach the Champions League group stage Rangers must first overcome their third qualifying round opposition before winning a two-legged play-off round.

Genk and Servette had drawn 1-1 in the first-leg.

Servette were reduced to ten men just five minutes into the second leg when Enzo Crivelli was ordered off for a challenge on Genk captain Bryan Heynen who left the pitch on a stretcher.

Mike Tressor netted a penalty to put Genk ahead but the visitors levelled through a Timothy Cognat deflected free-kick.

Genk regained the lead when Tolu Arokodare bundled home in the second half but Servette equalised again through Chris Bedia just after the hourmark.

The scoreline remained 2-2 - or 3-3 on aggregate - forcing a penalty shoot-out.

And after a remarkable performance to take it to penalties, Servette snatched a 4-1 victory from spot-kicks to tee up a trip to Ibrox next week.
