Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst drops transfer hint over Manchester United loanee Amad

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has left the door open on the future of Manchester United loanee Amad.

The 19-year-old made the move to Ibrox back in January as he looked to get more game time under his belt, with his opportunities at United limited. Since scoring just a matter of minutes into his debut for the Scottish champions though, Amad has endured a torrid time in Glasgow.

The teenager has been limited mostly to cameos off the bench, with the winger making just 10 appearances since arriving north of the border. Any chance of Rangers attempting to extend his stay into next season looked to be slim at best, with Amad looking guaranteed to return to Old Trafford in the summer.

Having been handed a rare start against Motherwell at the end of April though, Amad was given another opportunity to impress as he came on at half-time against Dundee United on Sunday. The Ivory Coast international made the most of his chance, scoring the decisive second goal in a 2-0 win as he produced an impressive display at Ibrox.

The win ensured Rangers kept the title race in the Scottish Premiership alive until at least Wednesday. It also gave Van Bronckhorst plenty to think about, with the former Arsenal and Barcelona defender not ruling out an extended stay for Amad.

“Today we could give a lot of players the chance to make minutes. I think Amad is a player who benefits from that. He will get minutes in the last games,” Van Bronckhorst said.

“You could see what he brings to the team. I’m really happy with his performance and with his behaviour overall. What happens next season, we haven’t discussed his future.

“Once the decision has to be made about what the squad will look like next year, we will also make a decision about who we want to bring on board.”

Amad will now hope to play his part in Rangers’ four remaining games this season, with league games against Ross County and Hearts before facing Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final and Hearts again in the Scottish Cup final. Should he get his chance in those games, it could give incoming United boss Erik ten Hag some food for thought upon his arrival at Old Trafford.
