Rangers are living on fantasy island over Celtic claims and Michael Beale is messing with the wrong guy – Hotline

Celtic's relentless run continued at St Johnstone but Rangers fans still reckon the Hoops are running scared instead of running away with the league.

Mick Beale’s men made it 12 games unbeaten under the new boss and the Ibrox support have put Ange Postecoglou on notice. Alan Flett, via email, said: “ Celtic fans are beyond belief. If it’s not referees favouring Rangers, it’s teams lying down to them. The Mick Beale revolution is in full swing and it’s only a matter of time before Scotland’s biggest club are back where they belong. The naive Postecoglou is on borrowed time and Celtic will be left with a team of Japanese duds that no other manager will want.”

It’s fair to say Celtic fans don’t agree. Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, said: “Beale is playing mind games with his ridiculous remarks. If he hopes to rile Postecoglou with such comments, he has another thing coming. Postecoglou is too astute to fall for such moronic manoeuvres. He should hope that his mind games don't backfire big time.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Nine points clear at the top with better goal difference of 25 and winning with ease every week yet still we have to listen to Rangers fans telling us they’re better than us and we’re running scared ? “The only running we’re doing is away with the league so Rangers fans stick to your PlayStations, it’s the only place you will win the league.”

James Fitzpatrick emailed: “Caller Joe Sneddon says Celtic are scared from the most successful club in Europe. Last time I looked Real Madrid play in La Liga. Keep taking the tablets Joe.”

And Scott Farmer, Auckland , said: “I don’t know why the big fuss about how much Celtic have available to spend. From the beginning of last season, they and Rangers have almost identical transfer income. And they both got in the region of £20m from the Champions League this season. Rangers have only spent a fraction of the money received. Maybe they’ve got different priorities?”

Celtic flexed at McDiarmid Park on Sunday but not everyone was impressed. Dr Robert S Pender emailed: “What a boring watch. St Johnstone were as dead as their pitch. Celtic played at walking pace and St Johnstone just lay down. It was a poor advert for Scottish football and it is no wonder the Old Firm struggle in Europe.”

Speaking of surfaces, Kevin Lord, Drylaw , said: “As if the shiny plastic ones aren't bad enough, the state of pitches in the Premiership is atrocious. It’s embarrassing to ask good players to adorn them.”

Aberdeen’s interim boss Barry Robson halted the slide at the weekend but the search for a new gaffer goes on. Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “Just when Aberdeen fans think they've seen the worst, they find out John Hughes wants to be the next manager at Pittodrie. If Hughes is as good as he boasts, how come no big club wants him?”

Finally, Scotland’s rugby side gave the nation something to cheer about on Saturday when they put the Auld Enemy in their place again in their own backyard.

The challenge now is to kick on and Neil Renton, Edinburgh , said: ”That was some result for Scotland beating England at Twickenham in the rugby. Let’s hope they avoid doing the usual Scottish thing of not winning another game for the rest of the Six Nations.”
