Gary Doctor hailed his Hamilton Accies Women side for digging out a late result at Glasgow Women to make it two wins from three games in SWPL1
Josephine Giard hit a hat-trick for Accies - her third goal coming in stoppage time - and MT Gardiner was also on target as they ground out a 4-3 victory on Sunday.
Accies now sit fourth in the table ahead of a daunting run of league fixtures that sees them host Rangers this weekend, followed by Hearts on September 11 and Celtic away on September 14.
While Doctor felt his side should have had a more comfortable afternoon against the league’s bottom side, he was pleased to see them show the mentality to get the three points.
He said: “We should have won the game by a much more convincing scoreline and had the game out of sight by half-time.
“However, sitting with six points from three games we can’t be too picky.
“There’s plenty of things for our players, especially the younger ones, to learn from.
“With time running out, we managed to pull it out and get the win which was huge. It shows another side to our game, showing that character to come back and win it in injury time.
“The points we’ve got on the board right now are so important. If we didn’t have them, we’d be going into this run of games wondering where the points are going to come from.”
The challenge facing his side this weekend is huge, with on-fire Rangers hammering Glasgow Women 14-0 earlier this month.
Rangers are also competing in the Women’s Champions League, so Doctor knows the magnitude of the task.
He added: “We are going from one end of the table to the other, really.
“Rangers are a top team, playing in the Champions League this week and qualifying for the next round so we know we are playing probably the best team in the country at the moment.
“It will be tough with the confidence they’ll have at the moment, but there’s no expectation on us. Against Glasgow, the expectation was more on us and that was maybe our difficulty.
“We’ve just got to do what we can, make sure our attitude and approach to the game is right.
“If things go against us, we’ve got to show the right mentality. I think we’ve shown a good mentality already in our games this season with the results we’ve had, so I think we should go and enjoy the challenge.
“It will be very hard but we aren’t going in with a defeatist attitude.”
Accies’ clash with Rangers on Sunday is a 2pm kick-off at New Douglas Park.
