Sam Allardyce has raved about Rangers insisting any approach from the Ibrox club would be an "honour".
The Govan side are on the lookout for a new manager after they decided to sack Michael Beale at the weekend following a string of poor results domestically and in Europe.
Beale was sacked on Sunday after 307 days in the post with Rangers seven points adrift of Celtic in the Premiership following their third league defeat of the season against Aberdeen 24 hours earlier.
Kevin Muscat, the former Rangers defender who is currently in charge of Japanese side Yokohama F Marinos, is the early bookmakers’ favourite for the role.
But other names include the likes of Frank Lampard and Pascal Jansen. Some bookies are also taking money for Allardyce and he has opened up on the speculation.
The experienced Englishman told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast: "That'd be interesting. If they came and asked me, it would be an honour at Rangers, wouldn't it? A football club the size of them.
"Speaking to Alex McLeish and Fergie about it, it's just an unbelievable football club. Not that I'm actively promoting myself for the job, but clearly it's not gone well. He's only been in the job for two minutes, hasn't he?"
Meanwhile, Steven Davis declared himself “very honoured” after getting a call “out of the blue” to take charge of Rangers on an interim basis following the sacking of Michael Beale.
“I’m very honoured,” he told Rangers TV on Monday. “The call came out of the blue a little bit. I wasn’t expecting it but I’d just like to try and repay the trust the club have shown by putting me in this position.
“Obviously it’s not a position we would like to be in, we’re disappointed with where we’re at at this moment in time but I’m really looking forward to the challenge.
“I’m delighted to get the opportunity. I believe in the group we’ve got. Things haven’t gone the way we would have liked and we find ourselves in this situation but I’m sure with ourselves and the fans pushing in the same direction we can go on and get some good results.”
