Come Saturday there will be a buzz around two pubs in Wishaw as Celtic take on Rangers in the first Old Firm derby of the season.
However, it won’t just be the action on the pitch that will be interesting punters in the Rangers-daft Imperial and the Celtic-loving Cross Keys.
Regulars will have the chance to win a ball signed by this season’s squads with all the money raised going to the Wishaw-based Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation which helps kids with life-limiting illnesses fulfil their dreams.
Gerry Quinn, from the Cross Keys, and The Imperial’s Louise Wilson popped into DreamMaker HQ in Wishaw’s Stewarton Street earlier this week to pick up the signed balls from charity co-ordinator Angela Cook.
Gerry said: “It’s great to be involved and to be helping a local charity that does great work.
“Hopefully this will be the first of many ways we can help.”
Louise added: “We’re delighted to help the charity in anyway we can, we have got the charity tin in the pub and it always gets well supported.
“I’m sure everyone will get behind this and we will raise a lot of money.”
Charity founder Les Hoey was delighted both pubs have opted to get involved ahead of the big match.
“We’ve always wanted to do something like this so I’m pleased we’ve managed to do it,” said Les.
“With the game being on the Saturday it’s perfect timing and the money raised will really help us.
“Who knows maybe we can link up and do more together in the future.
“I wonder who the referee would be if we could get a charity game organised!”
