Rangers and Celtic 'driving' calls for VAR as Scottish football set to implement game-changing technology

Scottish football will have VAR from next season after the Scottish FA secured a deal with Hawk-Eye to provide the technology.

The company innovated sport with video replays and it is being used to bring the Scottish Premiership up to scratch with most of Europe.

Reports from the Daily Express state Celtic and Rangers have been 'driving the calls for the technology to be brought in.'

Motherwell manager Graham Alexander has called for VAR on more than one occasion this season and its use could have been key in Sunday's Scottish Cup quarter-final loss to Hibs.

Bevis Mugabi was sent off inside a minute for a challenge on Josh Doig but teammate Jordan Roberts' similar collision with Drey Wright only merited a yellow minutes later.

Hawk-Eye have started recruitment in Scotland for a video replay operator with a start date of between April and October this year.

Some Premiership clubs are reported to be unhappy at the six-figure costs of bringing in VAR and it's not known when they system will be ready in Scotland.

Referees are already being trained for when it does arrived, but it's thought that it won't be ready until after the Qatar World Cup in December.
