Range Rover vandalised in Bristol with 'sinister' climate messages

Climate change activists have defaced another SUV daubing sinister messages onto the vehicle. A Range Rover has had 'Climate Criminal' spray painted on the front of the bonnet and 'This Machine Kills Kids' was painted on the front passengers door.

A passer-by spotted the vehicle and posted pictures of it onto the discussion website Reddit. They captioned the post "The b******* were out again last night it seems."

The post generated a lot of discussion and received over 800 comments. People's perspectives on the issue were divided. Lots of people agreed with the action the climate activist took, arguing 'shaming may be the only thing to stop people'.

One comment read: "No sympathy. You drive one because you want to seem superior and don’t care about the climate. Shaming may be the only thing to stop people driving these."

Another wrote: "It's not just pollution. SUVs and other large vehicles have massive blindspots that make it hard for the driver to see non-adult sized people. Child deaths as the result of being hit by a car have increased everywhere, directly in line with increases in large vehicle / SUV purchases. Those cars really do kill children."

"But what’s the person going to do? Let’s say the message gets through and they sell the car - straight onto the next person who’s obviously going to use it too.

"Surely a more intelligent idea to campaign to the actual corporations. Hating the player is not going to make the game stop - it’s just going to transfer it at best."

Many people, however, thought it was "unacceptable" that people were supporting the activists and expressed their disbelief.

One outraged commenter said "I literally can’t believe the amount of you all agreeing with this and condoning these actions. This is out of order. Whether it’s true or not to deface someone’s property is unacceptable."

Another argued: "Grow some balls, knock on their door and tell them to their face. You might even change their perception if you engage civilly. This type of action just breeds hate and anger." A third added: "Why are people agreeing with this vandalism on someone's property? I don't understand?

"It's crazy to me that people would be siding with whoever did this? Because it's a big car? Boohoo. Unless you are literally at a 0 carbon foot print it's just hypocritical."

This isn't the first time this has happened, at the beginning of April number of cars were defaced in Clifton after vandals painted the vehicles' exterior with the same sinister messages.

Vehicles such as Land Rovers, Range Rovers and a Toyota Land Cruiser were painted with slogans in Caledonia Place, Princes Buildings, Royal York Crescent, Sion Hill and Westfield Place.

Avon and Somerset Police is urging the public to dial 999 if they spot anybody behaving suspiciously around a vehicle.
