When it comes to the list of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, Randy Moss is undeniably a name near the very top of the list.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer ranks second in NFL history in career touchdown catches and fourth in receiving yards, and he still holds the NFL’s single-season touchdown reception record (23 in 2007) among other accolades.
With that in mind, it’s interesting to hear his thoughts on today’s talented collection of NFL wide receivers, and Moss recently told TMZ Sports that the Vikings’ Justin Jefferson is the top wide receiver in the league today.
“I think Justin Jefferson is the No. 1 receiver in the NFL,” Moss said. “The way they utilize him, the way they move him around … I think Justin Jefferson is going to have another breakout season.”
Moss, who spent eight of his 14 NFL seasons with Minnesota, chose Jefferson over other elite receivers such as Cincinnati’s Ja’Marr Chase, Miami’s Tyreek Hill, Buffalo’s Stefon Diggs, the Rams’ Cooper Kupp and Las Vegas’s Davante Adams. In three NFL seasons, Jefferson has registered 4,825 yards on 324 receptions with 25 touchdowns through 50 games.
Even more, the three-time Pro Bowler led the league with 1,809 receiving yards last season and earned the AP Offensive Player of the Year award. The 24-year-old also eclipsed the Vikings’ single-season receiving yards record previously held by Moss during the ’22 campaign.
In praising Jefferson, Moss discussed how the departure of running back Dalvin Cook from Minnesota could impact Jefferson’s production. However, if Minnesota can maintain a consistent running game to complement the Vikings’ play-action passing sequences, Moss believes Jefferson will have another standout season.
Minnesota will begin the 2023 regular season on Sept. 10 at home against the Buccaneers.
