Sean McVay doesn’t put a lot of stock in the preseason. He was one of the coaches who started the trend of keeping his top players off the field during those exhibition games, instead preferring to let them compete against other teams in joint practices.
He’s said several times how much he values practices with opposing teams, putting players in more of a controlled setting where injuries are less likely to happen and you can see a first-team offense against a starting defense.
This offseason, the Rams are going heavy on joint practices. They’ll have four total practices with three other teams, all of whom the Rams will face in the preseason: Two against the Chargers, one against the Cowboys and one against the Texans.
Their four joint practices are the most of any team in the NFL this summer, one more than the Dolphins and Jets, who will hold three joint practices. The Chiefs and Raiders will not have any joint practices, by contrast.
The Rams’ joint practice schedule is as follows:
- Aug. 4 at Chargers in El Segundo
- Aug. 8 at Cowboys in Oxnard
- Aug. 14 at Chargers in El Segundo
- Aug. 22 at Texans in Houston
Below is the full schedule of every joint practice in the NFL this summer.
