After Sean McVay considered retiring, he chose to return to the Rams instead of taking some time off. However, McVay got some big news during the offseason away from football.
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles coach revealed his wife is pregnant with their first child, and he spent most of the offseason preparing for his arrival.
“It was great to be able to spend time with my wife, especially because it’s exciting we have a little boy coming here in a few months and my appreciation for her and just that process in general is significant,” McVay said, via ProFootballTalk.
McVay added that his wife is due to give birth in late October, in the middle of the football season. Los Angeles has three straight home games to begin that month before playing on the road at Dallas and at Green Bay. Then, the Rams are on a bye during the second week of November.
The head coach implied that he will be away from the team when his baby arrives, so defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur will get temporary promotions during that time.
Last June, McVay married longtime fiancé Veronika Khomyn after almost a decade together. At 36 years old, McVay remains the youngest head coach in the NFL as he has been since Los Angeles hired him in 2017.
