The Rams have already been without Van Jefferson for two games, but his absence will extend at least another four weeks. The team announced on Saturday that Jefferson has been placed on injured reserve.
He is now forced to miss at least four games, meaning he can’t return until Week 7 at the earliest. The Rams have a bye in Week 7 so the earliest Jefferson can play is Week 8.
Additionally, the team signed Grant Haley to the active roster, promoted Jacob Harris from the practice squad for Sunday’s game and also brought back Keir Thomas on the practice squad after waiving him.
LA Rams Transactions:
• Reserve/Injured WR Van Jefferson
• Signed to Active Roster DB Grant Haley
• Activated, from Practice Squad WR Jacob Harris
• Signed to Practice Squad LB Keir Thomas— Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) September 24, 2022
Jefferson’s placement on IR comes as a pretty big surprise after Sean McVay just said this week that he’s on track and has been making progress. The Rams clearly believed he could be back before Week 5 when the season began, otherwise they would’ve placed him on IR earlier.
Jefferson underwent two knee procedures this offseason, the second of which came in August. He has not practiced since, so even when he is healthy, he could need some time to get back up to speed.
