The Rams are placing quarterback Stetson Bennett on the reserve/non-football injury list, coach Sean McVay announced on Wednesday. McVay declined to reveal the reason for the move out of respect for Bennett.
“That’s all I’m going to say and I really hope that you can please respect my wishes in regards to keeping that in-house,” McVay said, via Rams Wire.
Bennett, who was the Rams fourth-round pick out of Georgia, had been dealing with a shoulder injury, but McVay said that this move is separate from that injury. The rookie was inactive for the Rams opening game against the Seahawks as Brett Rypien served as Matthew Stafford’s backup.
At Georgia, Bennett won back-to-back national championships, leading the Bulldogs to a 28–1 record between 2021 and ’22. The 25-year-old was expected to be the Los Angeles backup entering the season, but had been dealing with the shoulder injury since before the end training camp.
