Rams make Aaron Donald’s retirement official, place him on reserve/retired list

Aaron Donald announced his retirement from the NFL back in March, but he remained on the Los Angeles Rams’ offseason roster for months. It’s not that the Rams expected him to return, but they waited to make his retirement official.

On Friday, they did just that. The Rams finally placed Donald on the reserve/retired list, which was just a formality.

Should Donald ever want to come out of retirement – something he hasn’t even hinted at in recent months – the Rams would still hold his rights, so it’s not as if another team can simply sign him this year.

The Rams restructured Donald’s contract just before he retired, which dropped his 2024 cap hit to $25 million. He also has two void years in 2025 and 2026, giving him a dead cap hit of $9.67 million in 2025.
