The Los Angeles Rams seem headed for a roster purge this offseason. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Rams are expected to release Leonard Floyd if they can’t trade him first.
This news comes after the Rams announced they’re parting ways with Bobby Wagner and with the team weighing trade possibilities involving Jalen Ramsey and Allen Robinson.
Floyd has a $22 million cap hit this year and whether they trade or cut him, they’ll save $3 million in cap space. Getting a team to take on his contract, which has two years left, could be difficult because of how expensive he’ll be.
The Rams could designate him a post-June 1 cut and save $15.5 million in 2023, but that would just spread out the $19 million in dead cap over two years instead of it all hitting the cap this offseason, so it’s not a greater net savings overall.
Rams are expected to release OLB Leonard Floyd if they cannot trade him first, per league sources. Floyd has had at least nine sacks in each of the past three seasons.

Floyd signed with the Rams as a free agent in 2020, giving him a one-year deal worth up to $13 million. They re-signed him to a four-year, $64 million extension in 2021, so he has two years left on his current contract.
He has a $22.5 million cap hit in 2024 and will take up $6 million in dead money in 2025 due to the void year at the end of his contract.
