Rams activate receiver Jacob Harris from practice squad ahead of matchup vs. Falcons

Hoping to get back to .500 in their second game of the regular season, the Los Angeles Rams made a single transaction on Saturday ahead of their matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Receiver Jacob Harris was activated from the team’s practice squad and was made a member of the 53-man roster, clearing a path for him to play in Sunday’s tilt.

The Rams’ official Twitter page announced the elevation, posting a tweet with the details of the move:

Though it is unclear if Harris is part of Los Angeles’ game plan against the Falcons, his activation has cleared the way for him to see the first significant snaps of his NFL career. After being selected by the Rams in the fourth round of the 2021 draft, Harris saw his rookie campaign cut short by a knee injury mid-way through last season.

He came back from injury in time for training camp and the preseason but was waived as part of the team’s cut down to 53 players. Following his release, a practice squad contract was quickly offered by Los Angeles, and he re-signed with the Rams after clearing the waiver system.

Harris is an enigma and his prospects as a contributor for Los Angeles are uncertain. The team converted him to receiver from tight end in the offseason, so adjustment and development will likely be necessary for Harris to blossom into a full-fledged playmaker. Nonetheless, his abilities jump off the screen in his college film, and he could become a capable pass-catcher if the Rams decide to invest more time into him.

For now, though, Harris is likely to be tapped as one of Los Angeles’ inactives for their matchup against Atlanta. The Rams’ offense could certainly use some new blood to get in gear against an opponent that should be beatable, but Harris will benefit from any time he spends on the active roster, regardless of his snap count.
