With looming cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, hanging over Halloween, many are ditching the candy and helping their community by handing out nonperishable food.

KC Neufeld didn’t expect much of a response when she posted in her Denver neighborhood's Facebook page that her family would be handing out ramen and packs of macaroni and cheese in addition to candy this Halloween.
