Ram temple construction committee chief says his role limited to overseeing construction work amid donation row

Ayodhya: The Ram temple construction committee chairperson, Nripendra Mishra, on Saturday said his responsibility was limited to supervising construction-related works and declined to comment on allegations of financial irregularities and misuse of donations received for the temple.

Mishra arrived in Ayodhya on Saturday afternoon and is scheduled to attend a meeting of the construction committee to review the various ongoing projects related to the temple complex.

Speaking briefly to reporters, Mishra said, "My responsibility is only to monitor the construction work. I have come here to review the construction-related activities."

On questions regarding the alleged donation scam and claims of irregularities in the funds received for the Ram temple, Mishra refused to comment.

"I only look at construction and nothing else," he said.

The construction committee chairman did not respond to further questions related to the controversy.

Reacting to the row over allegations of financial irregularities and claims of theft from donations made for the Ram temple, Uttar Pradesh Minister Surya Pratap Shahi had said on Friday that the Ram temple trust has already initiated an inquiry into the matter.

"The trust will take necessary action according to its rules and regulations. The trust is fully aware and alert regarding this matter," Shahi had said.

"The faith of any devotee will not be allowed to be tampered with. If there is any shortcoming or irregularity anywhere, it is being investigated."

Shahi had said that the state government was not intervening in the matter currently, as it falls within the purview of the trust. "If the trust expects any assistance or action from the government, then the government will consider it," he added.
