Ralf Rangnick issues major Manchester United injury update ahead of Chelsea Premier League clash

Ralf Rangnick has issued a major injury update on Manchester United stars Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho ahead of Thursday night's clash against Chelsea.

The Red Devils have endured a torrid season, sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in November before Rangnick replaced the Norwegian in the managerial dugout on a temporary basis. However, the veteran German coach hasn't fared much better, with his side currently sitting sixth in the Premier League standings.

And they have struggled over the last seven days, losing 4-0 to Liverpool before they recorded a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Next up for United is Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea, who they host to Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Ahead of the highly-anticipated clash, Rangnick has been speaking to the press about what players will be available at his disposal, confirming that the likes of Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani will all be sidelined. "It's possible," Rangnick said of the potential of youngsters being included in his squad.

"We have quite a few players missing tomorrow and one or two still with question marks. We will have to wait and see tomorrow to see if Aaron Wan-Bissaka can be available. I already played Hannibal [Mejbri] at Liverpool. It's possible but we have to be fair enough to those players, it has to be the right moment.

"They should have a chance to play well and to perform well, it's not just pushing them into a game, it should also be the right moment. Fred is unfortunately not yet available, he tried to train yesterday but after training, I had a long conversation with him and he just told me he is still not fully fit, he is not 100 per cent.

"With a player like Fred, who is always committed to give his very best, it doesn't make sense with a muscular injury to play him too early because that we would take the risk of re-injury and this is something I don't want to do. Apart from that, Harry Maguire is not available tomorrow, he has some issues with his knee, not a big thing, some niggles in his knee.

"He didn't train yesterday and today. Paul (Pogba), obviously, Fred, Edinson (Cavani), Luke Shaw (are all out) and Jadon (Sancho) is ill - he has had tonsillitis since yesterday. He couldn't train today and won't be available tomorrow."
