Rajasthan sees spike in Covid cases for 4th day in a row

JAIPUR: For the past few months, the state has not seen any significant spike in Covid-19 cases, but for the fourth consecutive day, infections have been increasing.

Beginning August, the state recorded a marginal spike in cases and deaths. Seven people have died, while 1,354 persons were found infected with the virus in the past four days (August 1-4).

Two deaths happened in the state were reported from Ajmer bringing state's toll to 9,587. In five days, state reported nine Covid deaths.

The rise in Covid cases and deaths has also attracted attention of the health department as health minister Parsadi Lal Meena had to issue directions to his officials to increase number of sampling for Covid testing and to run a special campaign for scaling up Covid drive by administering precautionary doses. In the past 24 hours, the state reported 20.4% jump in daily Covid-19 cases, as 413 persons were tested positive for the virus on Thursday. On Wednesday, the state had reported 343 infections.

Except Bundi, Jhunjhunu and Pali, all the 30 districts of the state have reported new Covid-19 cases, it shows that the virus is again spreading to infect people in districts, which were earlier not reporting new infections.

In 24 hours, the state's active cases have increased from 2209 to 2331 by 5.5%. Jaipur's active cases have also been increasing constantly and it touched 771 mark, which are highest in the state, followed by Jodhpur (200), Alwar (175), Udaipur (160), Dausa (130), Ajmer (118), Rajsamand (95), Bhilwara (92) and Bikaner (84), while rest of the districts have 506 active cases collectively.
