Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, MP, has said that the health-care programme launched by the Rajasthan government has set a model in health care for the poor sections of society and similar initiatives will be expanded nationwide if his party is elected to power at the Centre in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
He was speaking after inaugurating a diagnostic block of a private hospital at Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district on Thursday. Mr. Gandhi said a huge disparity existed in the health-care sector of the country where the rich alone were able to access better health-care facilities.
“When I travel around the country, I notice that the biggest victims of medical tragedies are poor people. It is because, if you have money you can always get treatment in a good hospital,” Mr. Gandhi said.
Hence a nationwide change in the sector was the need of the hour, he added.
