Rajasthan: Heatwave conditions intensify; western disturbance likely to bring relief soon

Heatwave conditions have intensified across Rajasthan, with temperatures in the western parts reaching between 45 and 46 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Department.

Sri Ganganagar recorded the highest temperature at 46 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Vanasthali reported a temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Churu at 45 degrees, and Kota, Phalodi, and Bikaner at 44.8 degrees and 44.9 degrees, respectively.

Most areas registered maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, with Jaipur recording 43.6 degrees today.

The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has issued a heatwave alert, warning that dry weather conditions are expected to persist across most parts of the state for the next three to four days.

Dust-laden winds with speeds of 20-30 km/h are also anticipated, along with a further temperature increase of 2-3 degrees Celsius.

The department said that on May 26 and 27, some parts of western Rajasthan could see maximum temperatures reaching 46-47 degrees Celsius, with isolated areas likely to experience severe heatwave conditions.

However, a fresh western disturbance is expected to bring some relief from May 28-29, with possibilities of strong thunderstorms and winds gusting up to 50-60 km/h, along with light rainfall in parts of the state. This is likely to lower maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius.

Weather officials added that thunderstorms and rain activity may continue into the first week of June, providing intermittent relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions.
