Torrential rain has caused chaos on the east coast of Scotland on Friday, with houses, roads and vehicles flooded, and the Met Office warned there could be a danger to life in parts of Scotland.
The Met Office issued a rain warning for eastern parts of the country which will last until 9pm on Friday as a month's worth of rain is expected to lash down.
Fast-flowing or deep floodwater is likely, “causing danger to life”. Drivers are being urged to take care after 26 'red' flood warnings and nine flood alerts were issued.
The stormy conditions left a number of roads closed as pictures showed cars submerged, as commuters fought through the floods in Fife, Tayside and Grampian.
In Dairsie in Fife, the River Eden burst its banks, leaving a neighbouring house flooded. Pictures from a bridge crossing the water show the river has spread into the fields and garden surrounding the property.
A car had to be recovered after a single-vehicle crash on the A916 near Craigrothie. However, cops said no one was seriously injured.
The A91 near Auchtermuchty was also shut due to flooding, as was the A92 between Dundee and Ladybank.
One Peugeot vehicle was seen abandoned in a huge swell of water as vehicles struggled through the A92 this morning.
Huge waves were pictured battering off Stonehaven harbour this afternoon, as the weather worsened.
In Perth city centre, Main Street and West Bridge Street were flooded as heavy rain continued to fall.
In Pilton, Edinburgh, streets were also badly flooded as a red Audi was seen to be submerged in Ferry Road, which had since been closed off to traffic.
Edinburgh Travel News tweeted: "Ferry Road is CLOSED at the red bridge between West Granton Access and Crewe Toll due to flooding. West Granton Access is open but there's a lot of flooding so take extreme care."
On Friday morning the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) had 29 flood warnings in place, while police urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
In Craigo in Angus, about a mile from the border with Aberdeenshire, the railway track was submerged, with Network Rail tweeting a video.
Passengers should check their service before they go to travel, as delays, cancellations and speed restrictions are in place across the rail network.
Network Rail said in a statement: "Speed restrictions will be in place on the railway across the east of Scotland as high winds and heavy rain move in this weekend.
"Areas of the Highland Mainline, Fife and the East Coast Mainline will all be affected, with around 100mm of rain predicted to fall between Thursday and Saturday."
