Rail strike Scotland: Events and gigs that could be impacted by walkouts

A number of events in Scotland are set to be impacted by the ongoing RMT rail strikes, national operator ScotRail has warned.

Some events that are taking part on strike days will suffer from heavily reduced services, while others on days in between strike actions may still experience disrupted rail services.

This is because of signal boxes reopening at different times across the day. Rail signallers are vital for safe operation of trains and are a major factor as to why Scotland's services have been so heavily affected despite ScotRail staff not taking part in the strike.

Amid Pride Month, a number of marches as well as other local events may also be impacted by the nationwide rail strikes as well.

Here are some of the large events that it may be harder to get to amid the RMT strikes, which will take place on 21, 23, and 25 June.

The Eagles at Murrayfield, Edinburgh on Wednesday, June 22

The Eagles will be playing at Murrayfield tomorrow, and although it does not fall on one of the strike days, it may be impacted by the different reopening times across signal boxes.

There is also the ongoing reduced timetable, which may mean that fans have to organise alternative travel home should the gig go into later hours.

ScotRail has been regularly advising fans that a driver shortage has led to the reduced timetable and services will be ending earlier than usual.

Liam Gallagher at Hampden Park, Glasgow on Sunday, June 26

The Liam Gallagher concert at Hampden Park on Sunday, 26 June will be another that could be affected by signal boxes reopening after the strike.

It may also suffer from a lack of transport back from the event.

This was the case with the recent Ed Sheeran concert after fans were told that there would be no trains leaving from Mount Florida and Kings Park, the two stations closest to the venue, after the concert ended.

There are also a number of Pride events scheduled this week that are likely to be impacted by the rail strikes.

Gay Pride Edinburgh will be taking part between Friday the 24 and Sunday the 26.

Those attending may have to organise alternative arrangements, particularly if they want to attend the Edinburgh Pride Parade which will start at 12pm on Saturday the 25 which is one of the strike days.

There is also a march scheduled in Glasgow on the 25 hosted by Pride Glasgow which may be difficult for some to attend thanks to the strike action.

On top of the marches there are numerous small and local events set up by students and businesses over the next week, so it's important for those planning to attend to plan their transport well ahead of time.
