Rail passengers in London faced chaos on Wednesday as the disruption from mass cancellations caused by the heatwave spilled into a second day.

Travellers at Kings Cross and Euston were left stranded after cancellations prompted by damage to overhead wires, tracks and signalling systems during sweltering 40C temperatures on Tuesday.
