There is yet more disruption ahead for rail passengers with two lines between Cardiff and Pontypridd set to be closed for nearly a week. Rail users are being urged to plan ahead for the closures, which are being put in place so major engineering work can take place.
From Saturday, July 2, until Friday, July 8, the railway lines from Cardiff Central to Radyr (via Fairwater) and from Radyr to Pontypridd will be closed to trains. Get the latest traffic and travel news from across Wales sent straight to your inbox by free by signing up to our newsletters.
Bus replacement services will be in operation while the lines are closed. Transport for Wales has told passengers to check for the latest information on services before they travel on the TfW website or mobile app.

The closure has been brought in to allow major engineering work to continue on the South Wales Metro. The project, which is now set to be finished in 2024, involves the electrification of the core Valley lines (from Treherbert, Aberdare, Merthyr and Rhymney into Cardiff), as well as the Coryton and city lines through the capital down to Cardiff Bay.
The work that is set to be carried out includes the installation of foundations for overhead line equipment across Radyr and Cardiff lines, signalling installations and upgrades, level boarding and track work at Radyr and Treforest stations and vegetation clearance and preparation works at Danescourt. During the closure, ground investigation surveys and general maintenance will also take place.
The disruption comes after a week of widespread rail strikes. The vast majority of routes in Wales were without service on Tuesday, June 21, Thursday, June 23, and Saturday, June 25 due to members of the RMT union, who work for Network Rail, walking out.
