Two weeks ago against the Patriots, Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo left with a back injury. He was immediately taken to the hospital for tests to ensure his injury wasn’t internal. Those tests came back negative, but the mere fact that his pain was severe enough to warrant such tests was an indication, it was no minor thing.
Garoppolo would miss the entire week of practices last week and Brian Hoyer was named the starter against the Bears. That didn’t go well at all, so the Raiders would very much like to have their starting QB back when they head to Detroit Monday Night to face the Lions.
Thursday they had their first practice and head coach Josh McDaniels announced that Garoppolo would be on hand as he attempts to return from his injury.
“Hopeful,” McDaniels said of Garoppolo’s chances of playing this week. “As long as we don’t have anything, you know, anything goes the other way, we’re very hopeful that that will be the case.”
Garoppolo has missed two games this season and the Raiders lost both games with the starting QB failing to record a touchdown in both contests. While Jimmy G has thrown at least one touchdown pass in every game he’s played and the Raiders are 3-2 in those games.
