Has there been a more impressive quarterback in the preseason than Aidan O’Connell? The fourth-round pick has improved in each game and has looked as good as advertised.
In a recent article by Pro Football Focus, they listed every team’s most impressive backup from Week 2 of the preseason. For the Raiders, that was none other than O’Connell, who was even better this week than he was against the 49ers.
Here is what the site had to say about the rookie passer from Purdue:
The rookie quarterback has now earned elite PFF grades in back-to-back games. The Raiders signal-caller completed 11 of his 16 aimed pass attempts for 163 yards against the Rams. He also threw two touchdown passes and produced one big-time throw and no turnover-worthy plays.
O’Connell is the site’s highest-graded quarterback through two weeks of the preseason as he has yet to have a bad throw. He has looked accurate and poised as the offense has hummed with him under center.
O’Connell is still likely to be the No. 3 quarterback this year for the Raiders, but the team is thrilled with his progress during camp. He’ll get another chance to shine this week as the Raiders will take on the Cowboys on Saturday.
