Against all odds, Maxx Crosby shook off a knee injury to play for the Raiders against the Chiefs on Sunday despite being listed as doubtful. It was the first time an NFL player had done so since 2020.
But Crosby didn’t just play through an injury—he suited up despite being hospitalized with infections earlier in the week, making it even more impressive that he was able to take the field against Kansas City in Week 12.
Crosby, who said he was in a great deal of pain during the game, said he dealt with “infections,” which had him “down for the count,” per Nick Walters of KTNV-TV. But in true warrior fashion, the Raiders star emphasized that “if he can go, he’s going to go.”
“I train all year-round to do this, to play 17 games. If I can go, I’m going to go.”

Not only did Crosby go, but he made an impact on the game, fighting off a double team to wrap up Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for a key sack in the third quarter. The Raiders pass-rusher earned even more respect from Mahomes in the process.
“He’s at the top of the list.....the fact that he played today speaks to who he is..I have a ton of respect for him.”
