While the 2022 season certainly didn’t go as planned, there were a number of players who had standout years. Josh Jacobs led the NFL in rushing yards and Maxx Crosby recorded the most sacks of his young career.
Another player that had a career year in 2022 was left tackle Kolton Miller. By every metric, he improved as both a pass-blocker and as a run-blocker. He’s always been a good player, but he took his name to another level this year.
In a recent article by Seth Walder of ESPN, he ranked the top 100 most valuable players of the 2022 season. That list includes several players for the Raiders, including Maxx Crosby, Davante Adams, and Josh Jacobs. But it also included Miller at No. 46 overall.
Here is what Walder had to say about the veteran offensive tackle:
“In terms of numbers, this was Miller’s best pro season by a long shot. His 93% pass block win rate ranked eighth-best among tackles, but it was really the run block win rate (also eighth-best at 82%) which was the huge improvement. Miller had never recorded a RBWR over 67% before this season.”
The offensive line as a unit played well above expectations this year and it certainly helped that they got elite play from their left tackle. Miller is only 27 years old and appears to only be getting better with age.
The Raiders have a lot of needs entering the offseason, but having a dominant left tackle will certainly make the rebuilding process a lot easier.
