It’s no secret that the Raiders are in the quarterback market once again. While they will surely sniff around the veteran quarterback market, it is far more likely that they will draft their next starter in Round 1. But who might be available to them at No. 13 that could help change the direction of the franchise?
In a recent three-round mock draft by Chad Reuter of NFL.com, he had the Raiders selecting Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy in Round 1. Here is a snippet of why Reuter believes this would be a home run pick for the Raiders in the first round:
New Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, formerly McCarthy’s coach at Michigan, has made it clear he loves the athletic, strong-armed national-champion quarterback. If the Raiders pay heed to his words and believe Aidan O’Connell is better served as a backup, then McCarthy could be the pick.
McCarthy might be one of the hottest names around NFL circles right now coming off a National Championship win. He has all of the traits that are needed to become a franchise quarterback, and his playmaking ability makes him an intriguing prospect.
McCarthy will likely be the fourth quarterback to come off the board in April’s draft, but there is a chance that he might be gone before the Raiders pick at No. 13. His stock is flying up and he could end up being a top-10 pick by the time the draft rolls around.
