If the Raiders are going to improve significantly on defense, they are going to need a few under-the-radar players to step up. Specifically, they need a few players in their secondary to make big leaps in 2023.
But who are some of the potential candidates to improve this season? Trevon Moehrig is an obvious answer. So is Amik Robertson. But who else could make a jump?
In a recent article by Zoltan Buday of Pro Football Focus, he wrote about every team’s potential breakout player for the 2023 season. For the Raiders, that was 25-year-old cornerback Tyler Hall. Here is what the site had to say about the fourth-year cornerback from Wyoming:
It is yet to be seen how big of a role Hall can have on the Raiders’ defense, as he is projected to be a backup cornerback in 2023. However, based on his play in 2022, he could very well earn some additional playing time and be expected to take advantage of that. He only played in the second half of the 2022 season and was on the field for just 218 snaps.
Nevertheless, he earned the third-highest coverage grade among cornerbacks over the last eight weeks of the season. In addition, he allowed just 0.28 receiving yards per coverage snap, which was the lowest mark in the entire league.
Hall was incredible down the stretch for Las Vegas and has certainly earned more snaps going forward. But can he grab one of the starting jobs this year? That remains to be seen.
However, Hall is a real X-factor for the Raiders going into the 2023 season as he could be a difference-maker for them this season. If he can continue playing anywhere near the level we saw last year, the Raiders will have a chance on defense going forward.
