Manchester City’s recruitment of Erling Haaland is a headline piece of business, Darwin Nunez will probably be a hit at Anfield, Richarlison could well be an inspired piece of Spurs business and do not underestimate the significance of Christian Eriksen helping out Erik ten Hag.
But THE signing of the summer, assuming it is ratified, will be Raheem Sterling. Understandably, City must be confident of the strength of their squad to allow Sterling to go to a serious rival. And that sort of money for a player entering the final year of his contract is fairly irresistible, even if City never really NEED the dough.
But maybe - just maybe - City have not been obstructive because they realise what Sterling has given to them. You could spend forever pinpointing the most significant moment in City’s title-winning campaign last season.
