Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert won’t play Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills, but there’s reason to believe he’ll be back in Week 3 for a road game against the Seattle Seahawks.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mostert won’t be moved to the Dolphins’ injured reserve and “should be back sooner, rather than later.”
That’s no surprise after Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel didn’t sound too concerned about the injury in a Wednesday press conference.
“My sense is that it’s not something that time won’t take care of,” McDaniel said. “However, I’m definitely not going to make him worse by setting forth my expectations of when he’s going to play again.”
When asked if his unavailability was because of the short week of preparation or if it’s an injury that will keep Mostert out at least a couple weeks, McDaniel said it’s “closer to the former, but not ruling out the latter.”
During his time as head coach of the Dolphins, McDaniel has repeatedly refused to provide timelines for the recovery of players. So his suggestion that there’s a chance Mostert is back soon seemingly indicates that it isn’t something he’s too worried about.
The nature of the injury hasn’t been revealed, although McDaniel said that it happened early in the Dolphins’ Week 1 game and Mostert showed toughness to finish the game, as it’s an injury that “not many people play with.”
Mostert, 32, led the NFL in rushing touchdowns with 18 and tied the San Francisco 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey for most total touchdowns with 21 each. In his season debut against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mostert managed to pick up just nine rushing yards on six carries.
